Barrett Community,
-- We continue to be touched by the outpouring generosity and kindness of our community - from our friends, families, teachers, neighbors, co-workers and many others!
We received more than $5,000 within 24 hours of last Thursday's email announcing another effort to raise money for another round of grocery gift card distribution. So far, we have raised $7,535 in cash donation since last Thursday. In addition, former Barrett mom and current Barrett staff member, Gina Craig, will be donating to us $1,850 worth of Safeway gift cards she raised from friends and family!
In total, we have received more than $15,000 in total cash and grocery gift card donations from the Barrett community since we began this effort just three weeks ago.
Finally, we will be receiving an additional $5,000 in Harris Teeter gift cards from the "One Pantry at a Time" GoFundMe effort led by other Arlington residents/teachers. In total, the GoFundMe effort will have given us $8,750 in grocery gift cards.
[As a reminder, we distributed $8,450 in grocery gift cards two weeks ago.]
As we continue to receive donations, and following our next round of distribution, we will assess how much is still available to determine if we can do another round of distribution of grocery gift cards (even if for a lower amount per gift card). Alternatively, we may consider purchasing grocery items (staples and pantry items) with the remaining balance, which will allow us to stretch the money further to be able to provide groceries to as many families as possible.
We plan on doing the next round of grocery gift card - and school supply - distribution on Wednesday, May 6. More information on the distribution will be sent out next week.
***WEEK OF MAY 4***
In addition to the grocery gift card and school supply distribution,
- On Wednesday, May 6, we will also do a dinner fundraiser with Brick's Pizza that night as part of an effort to support a local business; in turn, Brick's will donate to Barrett PTA a portion of their proceeds for the night!
- The week of May 4-8 is Teacher's Appreciation Week, so we will be doing a few things to honor our dedicated teachers that week!
Additional information on the Brick's Fundraiser and Teacher Appreciation Week will be sent out from PTA members in the next few days.
