[KWPTA] Re: [webmaster-committee] Boundary Process & Barrett

To follow up on Andrea's email, I want to thank her and Jennie Apter, who have led our PTA's Special Committee on APS Elementary School Planning/Boundary Process.

Over the past year, they have volunteered many hours to work on this issue, which included drafting comment letters to APS, responding to APS community engagement surveys and questionnaires, engaging with APS school board members during their office hours, attending numerous APS meetings, and organizing PTA meetings to inform our school community. APS School Board Members Tannia Talento and Reid Goldstein were especially helpful in providing guidance to us - and making themselves available to us and to our school community.

We attended many APS meetings where we witnessed heated discussions in which many parents angrily expressed their frustration with the process and with the proposed school boundary changes. I understand that school boundary changes - and discussions and proposals surrounding those changes - often are emotional because of families' attachment to (and friendships and relationships they have developed with) their school communities.

Throughout the process, I have been proud of the way we approached this issue as we tried to protect the interest of our Barrett school community. Regardless of how the boundary process would turn out, I knew that we did it the right way - we respectfully engaged APS and we raised our concerns with them through many thoughtful discussions. Our collective engagement effort made me proud to be a part of this school community and to be a Barrett parent.

Thank you Andrea and Jennie!

Hello All,

As you may have already heard, Barrett is no longer part of the proposed boundary changes for the 2021-22 school year. APS has stated that there may potentially be another boundary process within the next two years. For now our boundary stays the same and we all remain together! For additional information, please see APS' press release:
