As many of you have already heard (https://www.arlnow.com/2021/01/07/police-investigating-break-ins-at-arlington-forest-shopping-center/), several businesses at the Arlington Forest Shopping Center - including New Forest Valet, Bricks Pizza, Sense of Place and Crystal Thai - had their front doors smashed and interiors ransacked. While many of us patronize these Arlington Forest businesses, we also know that these small businesses have been a huge part of our community for many years. Bricks Pizza has supported our PTA over many years through restaurant nights, and like New Forest Valet (owner Chris's mother was a Barrett alumna) frequently donated to many of our PTA charitable events.
-- A member of the Arlington Forest community is raising funds through GoFundMe to support the four businesses affected by the break-ins. While the GoFundMe has more than surpassed its fundraising goal, the organizer indicated that the money raised "will hopefully do way more for these pandemic-hit businesses than just fix their doors." The GoFundMe will run through this Sunday at 8:00 p.m.
While we have endured much adversity - as a country and as a community - we have also continued to come together to help each other over the past year. I know that many of us are angered by what we have seen nationally and locally since yesterday, but I'm hopeful that we will come together to heal as a country and as a community.
