I am going to change the deadline to give everyone 2 weekends and some teacher conference days in case their children would still like to participate in the contest. Countywide prizes and national honors await! New deadline will be Monday October 29th.Packets in English and Spanish are attached here. If you child does enter, you will need to print out the entry form and have them complete the "Artist's Statement" - this is a very important part of the judging so make sure it relates to the piece or art or writing that your child has created. I will fill in the other details later, and will also have some blank forms available in the school lobby and in the library from Monday. And remember - entries are judged heavily on how they respond to the them -"Heroes Around Me" - so many ideas!Reach out to me if you have questions.Joan---------- Forwarded message ---------

Subject: PTA Reflections 2019!
To: <everyone@kwbarrettpta.org>Hello everyone! It is PTA Reflections Contest time again! This National PTA Program has encouraged millions of students to explore their artistic talents and this year marks the 50th anniversary of the program. This year's theme is "Heroes Around Me" - such a great theme and so many ways to go with it! The biggest portion of the judging is on how your child's entry responds to the theme, so keep that in mind.Kids in K-5 can enter in the following categories: dance choreography, film production, literature (poetry/short story), music (original composition vocal or instrumental), photography and/or visual arts (drawing, painting or sculpture.)Visual Art and Photography entries are submitted in physical form, and others are submitted digitally (dance/film) or as an audio recording (mp3 or mp4 - easily done on phone/tablet.) Full rules are available at https://www.vapta.org/arts-and-education/reflections.County-wide awards by category and age group (K-2 and 3-5) are presented at a ceremony at Washington Lee High School in January, and can move on to Regional and National competitions.I am the Coordinator for Barrett so please forward any questions to me at joangreen32@gmail.com. Entries will be due October 23rd and I will have a box in the library to collect entries from October 14th. Entry form and instructions are here:Thank you!Joan Green
