Thank you and congratulations to everyone for helping us reach our Read-A-Thon fundraising goal of $10,000 this year. The amount of physical and financial participation we receive at Barrett is amazing and it is one of the things that makes our school community great.
So we raised $10,000, what should we do with that money? Do you want to help us spend it? Actually the PTA raises and spends in the neighborhood of $50,000 each year. Money is used for things like school supplies, supporting the arts, class trips, classroom improvements, school beautification, neighborhood outreach and to fulfill grant requests from teachers and staff. We do need people to help us set the budget and determine what projects we can afford to do. If you're interested there are many positions opening up.
For next year we need to find volunteers to take over board and chair positions. The majority of the board have completed their two year terms and some will not have children in the school next year. So, it's time to step up to the plate, especially for the Kindergarten and First Grade parents. I know that you're all busy people, but the reality is the positions are not terribly difficult and don't take as much time as you may think. There are also numerous benefits as you will get to know the staff at school much better, get a deeper understanding of what your children do all day and make some great friends.

We are desperate to get some help with our vegetable garden in the back of the school and our courtyard within the school, but most committee chairs have been doing their job for two years or more and could always use some assistance even if they are not necessarily retiring from their position.
