Attached is a copy of the letter Barrett PTA sent to APS regarding their Elementary School Planning/Boundary Process. The letter is signed by several PTA board members and Barrett parents.
In the letter, we raise concerns with APS regarding the transparency of their process and call on APS to provide additional information and data on the effects of their proposals (available here: https://www.apsva.us/engage/planning-for-2020-elementary-school-boundary-process/) - particularly as it relates to school boundaries.
We also call on APS to prioritize neighborhood schools and retain the current boundaries of Barrett to ensure that vehicular traffic does not increase and that as many students be able to walk to Barrett as possible under any scenario.
Finally, we call on APS to take under consideration the demographic makeup of schools under any proposal to ensure that the wonderful diversity of Barrett is maintained.
