[KWPTA] Fwd: [KWBPTA] December Meeting Minutes and Update on School Move/ Boundary Changes with Impact on Barrett

Attached are the minutes of the Dec. 3 Barrett PTA meeting, as well as notes  and information on the Elementary School Move / Boundary Change Process now underway. In recent meetings  ( as late as this evening) and published information (see attached), we have learned that the APS planning committee is recommending School Move "Option 1" to the school board; this option was our least preferred scenario, as in its current form, it would recommend moving some members of our community out of the Barrett school zone (most likely from the Greenbriar section of Arlington Forest) to other schools. Much is still to be decided and there is still opportunity to have our voices heard on this process; decisions will take effect for the school year beginning Fall 2021, and the boundary decision process begins next fall. Decisions on school moves being made now have big impacts on that boundary process.

Please stay engaged and stay tuned for more information on how to stay involved including news about an upcoming survey and hearings where we can make our voices heard to keep our strong, diverse, walkable community whole, and to make the best decisions for Arlington County public schools more generally. Tannia Talento, school board member,  will speak at out next PTA meeting right before APS makes its elementary school move recommendations officially; it will be a great time to share the importance of keeping Barrett whole.

Thanks, Jennie Apter, KWB PTA Secretary
