[KWPTA] Distribution of Supplies to Barrett Families

Yesterday, we distributed cleaning supplies and hygiene products (and books!) to about 170 families - all thanks to the incredible donations of our entire community:

• Through the Amazon Wish List (and separate donations from families), we were able to put together packages for 165 families;
• 155 families responded to our request for information to receive supplies, while another 27 families either picked up extra packages we had available or left us their name and contact information so that we can prepare additional packages for them.

In total, we will have distributed about $10,000 worth of supplies, along with more than $3,000 worth of diapers and wipes. In addition to picking up supplies, families were excited to see many teachers (who helped with the distribution) for the first time yesterday!

In addition to the continuing generosity of our community (more than 140 families donated to our effort), a few folks we'd like to recognize for making the effort yesterday possible include:

• Elizabeth Rente and Christina Torres: In addition to their organizational skills, they put in countless hours over the past several weeks - to sort, store, keep track of, deliver (and much more) all the products and supplies we received;
• Anna Sparks and the Arlington Community Corps team (including Jennie Apter): After our initial call a month ago with the ACC team (in which they provided us with guidance on how to do such a distribution), they helped promote our Wish List - and supplied us (through their separate donation effort) with all the diapers and wipes we needed for families.
• Audrey Pritchard, who donated 80 bottles of homemade foaming hand soap for families.

This effort would not have been possible without the donations and financial contribution from our community, as well as the logistical support we received from so many teachers (including Cristina Torres and Ashley Giglio, who helped deliver diapers to families) and volunteers. Many hours were spent sorting and organizing supplies, and hauling and preparing packages - including personalizing each package based on the needs of each family. We are ONE community coming together to work as a TEAM. Thank you to everyone!

Moving Forward

While our entire Wish List was fulfilled, we have had to purchase additional supplies (and a few diapers), including enough to put together packages of supplies for another 17 families after we ran out yesterday. We will need to spend about $1,000 from non-PTA funds raised over the past four months, which will leave us with a balance of under $5,000 (again, this is separate from PTA funds, which we will use after we wind down the non-PTA funds). We are planning to do a distribution of produce products in late July/early August. Additional details will be provided.
