[KWPTA] Fwd: Email to PTA Barrett community listserv

I wanted to share the following message from Barrett parents, Chris Bhutta and Angelina Huynh. While this is not a PTA-sponsored activity, I am sharing this information (like any other community resource) to encourage families to be mindful of barriers that prevent families from participating in learning pods. As such, I encourage anyone creating learning pods in our school community to consider equity and inclusion in their plans (as Chris and Angelina hope to do).

-----------------
Dear Barrett parents,

We are looking into the fall and are concerned that pods might be formed at our school that fail to cross social circles and income lines.  We have already had a few conversations with other like-minded parents and representatives from the English-learning community at Barrett and would like to move to action. The plan is to keep the task manageable (read: not a ton of time commitment) by beginning conservatively with social pods rather than learning pods, drilling down to the grade or classroom.  We hope that social pods across sub-communities within the Barrett community can support inclusion and help our children connect with each other, while CDC guidelines are strictly followed.

If you are interested in taking a leadership role in creating diverse social pods at the classroom or grade level or just want to participate in a social pod, please email us at chrisbhutta@gmail.com

Best
Chris Bhutta
Angelina Huynh
