We are thrilled to announce that our PTA is one of the recipients of the National PTA Phase 2 COVID Relief Funding - we are among the 14 percent of applicants receiving grant funding. The grant will provide us with $5,000 to help with our food distributions.
Attached is the grant application form submitted, which summarizes our plans for a distribution of produce for our families. We are planning for the distribution of produce bags in late September. We will send out additional information as we finalize our plans.
Balance of Non-PTA Funds
As you know, during the grocery gift card distribution, we raised money outside of the PTA budget (because of prohibition on using PTA funds for grocery gift cards distributions). The balance from that fundraising effort currently stands at $2,546.32 (from a total CASH donation - not including grocery gift card donations - of $17,584). In addition to using funds from this "account" to support our grocery gift card distribution in the first three rounds (April - June), we have used these funds to support our last two rounds of distributions for the purchase of cleaning and hygiene products and essential food items (July - August), as well as burritos (District Taco provided $1,000 worth of burritos, we spent additional funds to total 200 burritos for the distribution). We will continue to use these funds to support our distributions until all funds have been spent from this non-PTA account.
PTA Funds
Over the past two months, many individuals and families have also donated to our PTA for our distribution effort (non-grocery gift card distributions). Since mid-June, we have received $3,525 in donations (minus fees for online donations) from the community for our "Food Pantry"/distribution efforts to support Barrett families. In addition to the National PTA grant funding and PTA donations we've received so far, the PTA Board will be taking a close look at the budget for the upcoming school year to provide additional funding support for the distribution efforts.
Based on availability of our non-PTA funds, the National PTA grant award, donations from our community, and additional funding from the existing PTA budget (pending approval of the budget from the full PTA membership), we hope to be able to do several more distributions for the fall.
