Every day in the United States, 43 children (19 years old and younger) are diagnosed with cancer. In fact, childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 19 in the U.S.
-- Within our Barrett community, we have families with children who have battled cancer. So, we wanted to note that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to raise awareness of pediatric cancers, while recognizing the courage and strength of the brave children battling a cancer diagnosis and supporting these children and their families in their fight.
Attached is a Fact Sheet with information on childhood cancer by the numbers from Alex's Lemonade Stand, an organization that promotes "funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer."
In addition to Alex's Lemonade Stand, there are many organizations that also raise awareness and support funding research of childhood cancer, including Kate's Cause (https://katescause.com/) and CureSearch (https://curesearch.org/), among many others.
Alex's Lemonade Stand is also hosting The Million Mile, the largest childhood cancer awareness challenge that funds researchers so they can find better treatments and more cures for pediatric cancer. To register for The Million Mile, please visit the following website:
